Activities
Campaigns lasting one or two weeks in emerging or developing countries to operate patients with frequent and extended surgical pathologies that are not treated due to lack of hospitals, surgeons, anesthesiologists, etc.., in poor areas. For example: pathology of the abdominal wall (hernias, etc..), colelithiasis, anal fissures and fistulas, and so on. This condition causes many deaths and cases of permanent disability occurs because many patients requiring elective or urgent surgery are not treated. In many rural areas of the world there are no basic surgical services and there is no possibility for governments to provide such services in the near future. Humanitarian associations like Surgeons in Action and other NGOs (Hernia Operation Foundation and others) are needed to provide surgical care by teams of volunteers who go to these areas to make potentially life-saving operations.
